How NOT to give up on your New Year's Resolutions in 2024

ree

New Year's Eve is an evening that provokes emotion, both good or bad, but as the year comes to an end it can be an opportunity to reflect back on events and experiences.  Perhaps there are special memories to take with you into the new year or it has been a year of struggle and brings relief having finally come to an end. However this year has been for you, the 2024 offers an opportunity for change, and it is a time when many will be jotting down a list of resolutions they hope to achieve in the year ahead.

A tradition embedded in history

Making New year's resolutions is a tradition that began 4,000 years ago, historically recorded by ancient Babylonians and one that is still carried by millions around the world today. In the UK statistics show that 35 million will make a New Year's resolution for 2024 and yet only 21% may ever stick to them.

As a Health and Wellness Coach I help you set goals that are achievable and realistic and most importantly keep you accountable, on track and motivated to help you succeed.

Here are a few RTWellness tips to help get you started!

Be realistic

If your goal is to exercise more or cut out bad dietary habits don’t jump in full steam ahead. Setting yourself a goal of going to the gym, walking 10,000 steps a day or cutting out your favourite foods may not be realistic. Think? What does your schedule allow? What are you going to replace that food with? How will it impact your health, those around you and your mood? Take small steps.

Set attainable goals

See the bigger picture of what you would like to achieve but set yourself a plan of incremental goals so you can celebrate small wins. This will keep you motivated and keep you working towards the final goal. If the goal seems too far away it can be hard to stay on track and increases the chances of giving up completely.

Accountability

Studies show that people who are accountable to someone for their goals are more likely to achieve them. This could be a friend, family member or a Health and Wellness Coach.
