Top tips for weight loss from a health and wellbeing coach
Are you frustrated with the ongoing pattern of losing weight only to regain it all back shortly afterward? The world of fad diets and quick fixes are dominating the world, however, the reason these so called 'diets' often fail is because they don't begin at root cause by exploring what is causing the weight problem and focus too much on the number on the scale.
My RTWellness top tips to begin successful weight loss.

Stop focussing on the number on the scale.
Focusing so much on the number is counter productive. It can change from morning to night just based on fluid, if you have been to the toilet and can easily go up from increasing muscle mass (which is a good thing). It can often cause unnecessary anxiety, stress or frustration which is not productive or beneficial for your weight loss journey. So stop focusing on that and start focusing on your relationship with your body.
Educate yourself in how to make healthier choices
Every aspect of your body and mind is connected to your weight loss journey. How well you sleep, how physically active you are, whether you can overcome stress, what and how much you choose to eat, however, so are social and environmental influences or even accessibility to certain foods. By fostering a deeper understanding of your body's needs and how your body functions, you can begin to make better choices. Read labels, find out what is in the food you eat and whether it is a good choice. If this idea is new to you, or you don't yet have the knowledge you need to understand the label, then seek out a qualified wellbeing coach who is trained in nutrition and can offer some help and guidance. What works for one person may not work for another so intrust in an expert rather than turning to the internet or group plans for help.
How did we get here?
Reflecting on what has led you to where you are is powerful, and also incredibly helpful in being able to grow and learn from past decisions or mistakes. Getting to the root of your health concerns or bad dietary habits can become the building blocks for realistic goal setting or obstacles to overcome. Being honest with yourself at this point is crucial in gaining understanding, accountability, empathy and self love. Working with a health and wellbeing coach to explore the root cause and finding positive solutions can be extremely helpful or you could even talk through your journey with a close friend or confidant. Expressing yourself out loud can often bring clarity or offer new insight.
Don't rush the process
I understand you might want a quick fix but just as weight often creeps up on us, it takes time to lose weight in a healthy way. Losing weight over time can also help in maintaining healthy weight loss, so do not rush. Enjoy the process of becoming a new version of yourself. The journey of weight loss encompasses adopting new habits and a positive and healthier relationship with food and exercise. As you begin to change there is a process of discovering new foods, flavours, textures, lifestyle choices. It may positively impact your family, friends as they learn to get to know this new you or begin to make changes as well. You too may need to re-establish your own personal connection with yourself and support at this stage is key, so turn to a coach or your family to keep you on track and help you stay motivated.
Set realistic goals
If weight loss if your goal, then be realistic and fully understand the reason you are wanting to lose the weight. If it is for an upcoming event in two months is this realistic? Can you achieve this in a healthy way? Will it give you enough time to really work on the root cause or make positive and healthy changes to be able to maintain the weight loss after the event has past? If you are embarking on a weight loss journey for health reasons then set a timeline, take small steps. How are you going to achieve these steps?. Perhaps set yourself a few goals to collaboratively help. For example, you may set a goal of attending an exercise class weekly or do your own activity a few times a week, alongside this you may set a goal to go to bed earlier, drink more water, batch cook on Sunday for the week ahead, make an alternative choice to eliminate one of your unhealthy habits. There is a lot that goes into successful weight loss so make a realistic plan and timeline before jumping in.
